SUTHERLAND, Ivan James (Jim) (Formerly of Ardlussa, Balfour) – Peacefully, after a long battle with his health, on Monday, June 22, 2026, aged 80 years. Dearly loved husband and best friend of Margaret, much loved father of his girls and their partners, Susan and Eric (Sydney), Linda and Jason (Timaru), Anna (Invercargill), Michelle and Bronson (Woodlands), cherished Grandad of Ryan, and Hayley; Isellah, and Zoe; Connor, and Samuel; and Chloe. Loved brother and brother-in-law of Bill, Raymond* and Viv, Anita* and Colin* McLeod, Tilly and Bill Grant, Gordon and Lorraine Thomas (Christchurch). A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel, on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 1.30pm, followed by light refreshments, before interment at Charlton Park Cemetery. We certainly enjoyed some great times solving the worlds problems over a cup of coffee.
I can't thank you enough for offering us all those years of great duck shooting on the farm, starting on the stubble fields then ending up with the main pond and others on site. I remember when Jim first offered us the pond, he took us down and showed us this great dry area that once was a pond. Umm why would ducks come here we thought. Then Jim says and " I can guarantee this will be full of water before opening " guess what " it was full and the duck…
