McEWAN, Hughie Alexander – Peacefully, at Ripponburn Hospital and Home, Cromwell, on Thursday, September 23, 2025, aged 83 years. A loving and loved son of the late Mavis and Alex McEwan (Green Island), and fond Uncle of his nieces and nephews. A great friend of Sue and Peter Dickey and family. Special thanks to the lovely Ripponburn staff who have cared for Hughie so well over the last 12 months.

A thanksgiving service to celebrate Hughie’s life will be held in Cromwell and Districts Presbyterian Church, 10 Elspeth Street, Cromwell, on Friday, 10 October, at 1p.m. This will be followed by afternoon tea and refreshments in Cromwell Town and Country Club, 32 Melmore Terrace. - Central Otago Funerals, Alexandra FDANZ

I worked at Hillside Railway Workshops with Hughie for a while,He also played rugby for Green Island & was captain at one stage,a good guy well liked & a sense of humour.

The greatest Uncle a girl could ever have. All of my happy childhood memories you created from holidays in Cromwell to playing the bag pipes. Your big belly laugh will always be with me. I am so pleased I came to NZ in July and got to say goodbye x
