Hickey, Brent Edward "Nearly Honest Brent" - Passed away suddenly on Friday, May 2, 2025, aged 67 years. Son of the late Pat and Bill (Honest Bill) Hickey; and brother to Billy (dec), John and Trish. Beloved husband of Steph, for 45 years, and much-loved father and father in-law to Hayden and Rachel, Tara and Kieran. Adored grandfather of Sophia, Will and Jordie.
Brent, you will leave a huge gap in our lives and the world will be a quieter place without you
A memorial service to celebrate Brent's life will be held at the Alexandra Bowling Club, 2 Poole Road, Molyneux Park, on Thursday, May 8, at 2.00pm. Brent can be visited at the Central Otago Funeral Home, 16 Ennis Street, Alexandra, from 400-7.00pm on Monday, May 5. He will be taken for his last drive on Tuesday, May 6, and have his final work day from 1.00-3.00pm at the Woolstore in Omakau. All welcome. Livestream available at www.centralotagofunerals.co.nz.
That was a wonderful send-off for Brent. I'm very sorry we were unable to be there. Our deepest condolences to you and your family Steph.
I had only recently resumed my friendship with Brent after having played cricket and rugby with him at SKC. I know he was eagerly looking forward to our 50th reunion in Oamaru this year. Everyone there will have stories about him and remember him fondly.
He messaged me only a day before his passing to see if the recent flooding in Leeston had affected our house. That's the sort of caring man he was.
I'll miss him.
